The Filipino TV Channel Review
Does The Filipino TV Channel truly deliver? In Filipino American television, you will mostly find satellite feeds of The Filipino Channel which has dominated the Filipino overseas cable for over a decade, the largest, longest running Filipino network in the world, owned by ABS-CBNi.
The Filipino Channel (TFC) is viewed by more than one million overseas Filipinos around the globe each day, and continues to be North America's first 24-hour cable and satellite service offering all-Filipino programming. Pinoy Plus, a newer package from Orbit Satellite Television and Radio Network based in the Middle East, was launched about two years ago to directly compete with the services offered by TFC. It is to be noted that during Pinoy Plus' entry into the scene, The Filipino TV Channel did not offer GMA-7 channels in its package yet, until the second half of 2006. Pinoy Plus features GMA-7 variety shows and reports, Viva Pinoy Box Office for movies, Viva Original Pinoy Music TV for general entertainment and music, and Pinoy Prime Sports, MGM, Orbit-ESPN, Orbit News, Fashion TV, The Disney Channel, Animal Planet, The Cartoon Network, Music Now and Radio Orbit. Until this time, I'm not sure if their services can reach overseas Filipinos in Europe as claimed. Although TFC was sometimes criticized by its own subscribers, it continued to soar in subscriptions after the inclusion of GMA Pinoy TV in its package. The Filipino TV Channel, now a partner of Direct TV, gives its Filipino viewers to get a glimpse of the Philippines' brightest stars in your favorite drama, comedy, news, musical, talk shows, magazines, youth programs, sports, movies, religious programs and variety shows. So is The Filipino TV Channel still the unanimous choice for Filipino programming? Yes, I can say so. Overseas Filipinos' eager interest and concern over the latest developments at home make them want to see what is going on live on television. It still is, and will always be. Interested?
