Litchfield Park-Arizona

In 1916, Paul Litchfield developed a cotton farm land bought by Goodyear Tire and Rubber, where he was a junior executive. The town was named after him in 1926, and Litchfiled Park became the headquarters of Goodyear Farms that covered thousands of acres.

For more than a decade, Litchfield Park, Arizona was Goodyear’s test site for its various vehicle tires.

In 1960, Litchfiled Park progressed from a master plan that included self-sufficient villages. Some upbeat characteristics of its time can still be seen today.

Litchfield Park-Arizona is a planned residential 3.2 square-mile community 16 miles W of Phoenix. The 4-star Wigwam Resort Hotel is the city’s focal point.that provides 700 jobs to the locals. It was built way back 1929 to accommodate Goodyear executives who were visiting farm operations. Soon, the Wigwam Resort Hotel blossomed into an exclusive and stylish resort.

Two miles N is the Luke Air Force Base, the largest training center for F16 fighter pilots in the world. This will explain why some of Litchfield Park’s residents are retired military personnel.

Recreation is offered at the 26,000-acre White Tanks Regional Park (named for natural rock water tanks with petroglyphs and cravings once used by Indians), the 19,000-acre Estrella Mountain Regional Park (for golfing, camping, horseback riding, hiking, picnicking), and the Wildlife World Zoo (home to some endangered species).

Further entertainment is accesses thru nearby Phoenix at the 18,000-seat Cricket Pavilion for the biggest concert venues and shows every year.

Adult and youth sports activities, the annual Halloween Carnival, weekend concerts at the Wigwam, Christmas in the Park activities, backyard barbeques, the Arts Festival, a variety of firework displays, sunrises and sunsets, walks by the Lake, sets of tennis and rounds of golf, are just some of Litchfield Park’s recreational activities.

Future projects include repairing roads; improving police and emergency services; performing a thorough study of recreation programs; a viable Library; and aligning their budget to support its family centered lifestyle.
