And yes, the London Bridge. What the heck is the London Bridge doing in Lake Havasu City? When the London Bridge was sinking into the River Thames in London, Robert P. McCulloch submitted a bid and won. The bridge was dismantled, sent by barge to the California coast, and transported to Lake Havasu and literally rebuilt "brick by brick". Today, the bridge is a focal point for the city and lures millions of visitors from all over the world, to the setting of a merry old England. The Tudor-style "English Village" is nestled underneath the bridge for a British touch when you shop and dine. Stroll, shop and stop at any of Lake Havasu’s tourist destinations, or rent a paddle boat, take a boat tour or ferry your way to the California side of the Lake. 45-mile long Lake Havasu City’s name was derived from the phrase "Land of the Blue Green Water". It’s a favorite vacation spot for adventurers in boating, water skiing, fishing, kayaking, and diverse crystal-clear water activities. How about the wildlife? Just spectacular. Lake Havasu shelters the rare Bighorn sheep and hundreds of bird and animal species. And the sight? You’ll gaze on the landscape of Saguaro cactus and steep mountains, and the beauteous lake of course. Lake Havasu City is a year-round vacation haven where there's something for everyone. Fishing derbies, boat regattas, art shows, car shows, 5-star resorts, private homes, or RV parks and campgrounds, vacationers certainly will find so much to see and do. During spring, the flora and fauna in Lake Havasu is abundant, and hikers and desert lovers will be thrilled. Summer temperatures in Lake Havasu can reach highs of 115 to 120 degrees at the peak. But the cool, clear water of the lake and the Colorado River provides the perfect respite for boaters and water lovers. Other water sports offered are boating, para-sailing jet-skiing, water-skiing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing. Fall brings about powerboat racing in September during the Havasu National Speed Week. October is a busy month for Relics and Rods Run to the Sun classic car show, the IJSBA-International Jet Sport Boating Association's world racing championships, London Bridge Days and Renaissance Festival. Besides the waters, Lake Havasu’s off-roading and hiking will get you to explore the backcountry with miles of roads and trails to travel. In the Winter, Lake Havasu also boasts of its hiking, fishing, golf and sightseeing. At Christmas season, the London Bridge Resort sponsors the annual 6-week Festival of Lights lighting up the English Village and London Bridge in a million Christmas lights. Add the boat parade on the first Saturday night in December. February attracts visitors with the Chili Society Cook-Off, and the Havasu Classic powerboat races. On President's Day, there’s the spectacular annual Winterblast fireworks. Plus a Lake Havasu vacation offers the view of Las Vegas’ style bright casino lights, where you can enjoy and try your luck in gambling within driving distance to Laughlin, Nevada. Book a Lake Havasu vacation and be amazed with the city’s great resorts, spas, golf courses, vacation rentals, hotels and motels, which are always at peak demand all throughout the year.
