Job hunt crisis?

by wenggay
(surprise, az)

Kumusta everyone!

I just got here in Surprise, AZ December of last year. It took me 3 months to complete all the documentation to get a social security number and work authorization and now that I'm finally all ready to work, tadah! i can't find any job!

hayyy.... I heard a lot crisis going on in the Philippines and now that I'm here in the so called "land of opportunities" I still hear crisis?! what am I? a jinx of some sort? there is probably something wrong with me? I dunno...

in Pinas, i got 3 1/2 years experience as an Admin. Asst. and 1 year and 8 months experience in a Call Center. I actually did not find any difficulty at all in finding a job back home but here? haayyyzzz again.

Maybe the opportunity here just limits to nurses and other medical professionals... or other super talented people. I'm becoming desperate now... not really used to just staying at home doing nothing.

So there... just venting out a little. hehe. thanks for listening, i mean, reading guys. But hey, if you know any jobs that you all can recommend for me then hugs for you!

Mabuhay!

Comment:

Hi Wenggay, jobs are usually not hard to find in Arizona. Maybe you need more sources, or check out our Arizona jobs page.

The thing is, if you are a starter, you will start from a humble job, and work your way up.

That's how most Pinoys get to the top! :-)

Good luck on your endeavor.

Kaya mo yan. Pinoy pa!

Maria

Not sure if you found a job yet, but I am hiring for a personal assistant. If you are still available, please email me at elizabeth at cdental dot org. Looking forward to meeting you!

hi wenggay!

hi wenggay! Hope by this time this comment reaches you, you're already holding a job. Maria is so right, most Filipinos who came here from the Philippines has to adjust to their expectations where it concerns finding a job. We hold a good or decent white collar job in PI but coming here, it seems difficult to find another one of the same calibre more or less. The gist is, swallow your pride and go for the menial jobs at first, the blue-collar jobs (if you would like to call it that). It wouldn't be difficult to find the job that you think you're so capable of, because these HR managers would like to see your work history here in the States. Start low and climb up the ladder. Next, scrutinize your resume'. Don't forget that you are selling yourself to the prospective company. Don't go for the bullet-type resume', emphasize the good qualifications you have to match the qualifications that the ad is looking for. If you get an interview, dress well; remember that power dressing gets you where you want to. Before going for interview, research the company's stats and be sure you impress your interviewer by "knowing" the company. How about your English? Are you still having the thick Filipino-English accent? Work on it. Finally, pray pray pray. Pray for confidence, pray so that the interviewer is in his best mood, and pray that you get the job.
Good luck, Wenggay!
