hyrdrogen peroxide?

my aunt is now crazy about mixing hydrogen peroxide with her lotions as a skin bleach and claims it effective.. since i have a "paper-white-mom" who enjoys teasing me for inheriting my father's color, but then again warns me of the probable dangers of using skin bleaches, i should ask, "is hydrogen per0xide safe?" if not, could u suggest any other alternatives? lotsa thanx!!=p
