Filipino Games - The Patintero
Our Filipino games have always been a part of Philippine culture and tradition, and we showcase the Patintero game as one such unforgettable childhood experience.Originally known as "harang-taga", this fun game can be played by a minimum of three people per team. Two or four squares are drawn on the ground, depending on the number of players, before the game is played. Then a toss determines the taggers and the runners. The objective of the runners is to get through each line without being tagged. If tagged while crossing a line, the teams exchange places. Consequence of the losers? Well, the losers carry the winners on their backs to and fro, or the winners slap the hand or hit the knuckle of the losers using the middle finger emulating the principle of a slingshot (pitik). Our Filipino children are a lively bunch to watch, most obvious in the types of games they play. Hearing their warm laughter as they indulge in games can make one's day.
