Ehrenberg-Arizona

Founded by Herman Ehrenberg, a surveyor and mining engineer, Ehrenberg-Arizona is a desert community along the Colorado River used as a main port before by gold-crazed Californians in the 1870s during the La Paz rush.

Ehrenberg has a colorful history, and was founded in 1863 as Mineral City, at the site of William and Isaac Bradshaw's ferry landing.

In the mid-1870s Ehrenberg was booming, with almost 500 people living mostly in brush and adobe houses. Mike Goldwater, grandfather to former Senator Barry Goldwater, established a mercantile store and warehouse there.

The town has a Mohave Desert setting 200 feet above sea level. Nearby mountains provide breathtaking relief.

On the other side is the colorful desert/mountain view for the visitors who are also offered a variety of water sports, campgrounds, mobile home parks, rest areas and overnight accommodations.

To the south side rests the Kofa Mountains whose major attraction is Palm Canyon that provides an adventurous mountain climbing for the vacationers.

Other landmarks are the 3,793-foot Castle Dome Peak and the remains of early treasure hunts in La Paz.

Community facilities include one motel with 120 rooms and 2 swimming pools.
