Cave Creek-Arizona
The Town of Cave Creek-Arizona is located in northern boundary of Maricopa County. With Phoenix to the west and south, Carefree is to the east and Scottsdale to the southeast. The town area is around 31 square miles. Named after a small stream that remains a perennial flow to date, Cave Creek-Arizona represented an open cavern where people have taken shelter for centuries. The original cave is now protected by the Desert Foothills Land Trust. Many petroglyphs and pictographs are evident of the Hohokam existence. Now, Cave Creek has a population of almost 5,000 people, with the town well situated for access to regional transportation. Interstate Highway 17 is located approximately 8 miles to the west, via the Carefree Highway that connects Phoenix and Flagstaff. The 101 Loop is accessible 12 miles to the south, from Cave Creek Road, and provides connections to the commercial and shopping areas in the East Valley. Cave Creek’s air transportation is available at Scottsdale Municipal Airport, Deer Valley Airport and Sky Harbor International Airport.
Recreation activities are available at nearby Lake Pleasant, Bartlett Lake, as well as the Spur Cross RanchConservation Area, Cave Creek Recreation Area, and Gateway Desert Awareness Park. The 2000 population of Cave Creek is 3,728 persons, of which its population growth is less than neighboring Phoenix and Scottsdale. The Town of Cave Creek is named after Cave Creek, the small stream that originates in the hills to the northeast and flows 25 miles southwesterly before reaching Paradise Valley. The stream derives its name from a tall, overhanging bluff along its west bank forming a wide open-mouthed cavern two miles north of the present Cave Creek. Situated 2,000-3,000 feet above, it is one of the best suburban cities in Arizona with a strong vibrant economy and low unemployment rate. Cave Creek is known for its national forest and recreational areas like the outstanding Tonto National Park and Cave Creek Recreational Park.
